Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut (born March 20, 1987) is an Indian actress who acts in Bollywood films. She made her Bollywood debut in 2006 in Gangster.

Early life

Kangana was born on 23 March 1987 to Asha, a school teacher and Amardeep, a businessman. She has a elder sister, Rangoli and a younger brother Akshit. She was born in a small town called Bhambla in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Her family lives in Mandi.

She did her schooling in Chandigarh from DAV model school Sector 15.She then moved to Delhi to become a model. She also joined the Elite Modelling Agency situated in Delhi in 2003 with the prospect of becoming a model.

Career

Theatre career

Ranaut started her career as theatre actor in Delhi with the Asmita theatre group. She trained under eminent theatre director Arvind Gaur. She participated in his theatre workshop at India Habitat Centre and acted in many plays.

Her first play with Arvind Gaur was Girish Karnad's Taledanda(Rakt-Kalyan).

Cinema career

Ranaut moved to Mumbai to try her luck in movies and received the offer for Mahesh Bhatt's 2006 film Gangster.She also joined Asha Chandra's three month course in 2004 to brush herself to face camera . During September 2005, Hindi Film-maker Anurag Basu spotted her having coffee in a cafe in Bombay, and signed her up for this movie.

The film was critically and commercially successful and her performance was especially applauded. This was followed by another acclaimed performance in Woh Lamhe (2006).

Later, Kangana starred in yet another Anurag Basu project, the hit film Life In A... Metro, as a confused girl who is looking for a real love. Her performance in the film earned her rave reviews. She also starred in Shakalaka Boom Boom (2007) as an asp

iring singer. Her next film Fashion starring Priyanka Chopra and Mugdha Godse was released on October 29 2008. The film was a critical success, and Ranaut's portrayal of a supermodel who loses everything on drug abuse gained her widespread praise, fetching her various nominations and awards in the best supporting actress category, including the prestigious Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.

Her latest film is Raaz - The Mystery Continues with Emraan Hashmi. The movie was released on January 23 and has been a commercial success and declared as first reasonable hit of 2009.

Kangana Ranaut Biography

Kangana Ranaut comes from the hill town of Manali in Himachal Pradesh. She did her schooling from Shimla.

Studying as a science student in Shimla, Kangana had never thought that one day she would work in a film under a reputed banner in Bollywood. But she did harbour a dream of acting, a dream that brought her to Delhi where she learnt acting while doing theatre.
Then Kangana took another step and came to Mumbai to try her luck in films. Her lucky break did not come straightaway, but after a while when Kangana had already tried unsuccessfully to make an entry into the tinsel town.
It happened in September 2005, when Kangana was drinking coffee with one of her friends at a café in Mumbai. Filmmaker Anurag Basu , who had already directed a successful film, Murder , was keeping an open eye for the heroine of his next movie Gangster .
It was there Basu spotted Kangana Ranaut and called her for the audition. Despite the fact that Kangana is not from a filmi background and has no real acting experience, Basu decided to cast her in his film. The rest, as they say, is history.
